SVOD

Image result for NetflixA "SVOD" is a subscription video on demand service such as Netflix and Amazon Prime Instant Video. Netflix is by far the market leader and it's growth continues to outpace their competitors.

Pros:
To a young film-maker a SVOD is a perfect way to get their films out there without having to go through a big company such as Sony. This can also be less costly for the film maker because they wont have to pay for their film to go into cinemas. You could also create a bidding war for their film if there is a predicted to be popular.

Cons:
However for a film-maker putting their film onto a SVOD wont get them as many views because of the lack of advertising because it will have to compete with millions of other films on the same market and therefore their film could be overlooked. There are also restrictions on creativity because of the ideals of the SVOD for example if you made a film against a certain belief then the SVOD may not buy into that idea and not take on the film.

Image result for papadopoulos and sons costs

An independent film called Papadopoulos and Sons had to spend over £800,000 to make the film and they didn't even film 30 days. However the film only made around £400,000 and therefore made a loss. For this reason people are very reluctant to make new films because of the initial cost makes it very hard to make a profit.

Synergy and Cross-Media Convergence

Synergy is where two or more forms of media come together and work in harmony with each other because they couldn't do the job on their own. Cross-media convergence and synergy, if done correctly, can help each other.

Preliminary Task Evaluation

In my opinion my preliminary task went very well. It had all the aspects that were needed which included: entering a room through a door, walking across a room, a 180 shot and an over the shoulder shot. I believe the music which was used inflicted a sense of anxiety to the audience. The props which were included like the big bag, helps to tell the story that there is a deal which is going on.

However aspects like credits where a bit off and could have easily been improved by using a unique font and/or a more vibrant colour, however the grey text went with the black and white theme so some could argue that it was good enough.

If I were to do this again I would make the camera more steady when using an over the shoulder shot. I would also make the credits different.

Harry Potter Mise en Scene

The costumes used in Harry Potter represented the characters in which played them for example Snape wore all black long robes to create a sense of mystery and give off a sense of evil about him. Other characters such as the students where all  dressed in a white shirt and tie with a dark cloak as seen on the left. This gives the impression to the audience that they are just normal children going to school without the cloak however with the cloak the perception is changed and they are no longer normal but mystical and powerful which comes from the common conception that headmasters wear cloaks.
The sets where set up in a very particular way. It all has low-key lighting to import the magical feeling to the audience and the buildings are unusual to what is seen on the high-street. Some buildings are set up to look old and are painted with dark colours whereas others are painted with brighter, warmer colours to imply the sense of dark magic and good magic.

Props such as the magical roof in the great hall where not in the set. They were put together using green screen to created the effects the surrounding props in the hall were all old and in contrast to the roof where normal. This is what made the film believable. The mythical creatures on the wall like the dragons also enforce the idea of this not being in the normal world and creates the idea for the audience that the film is about magic and mythical creatures.
